📌 The CVA is recruiting an Instructional Design Expert
Volunteer board role | Virtual | Approx. 5-8 hours/month | 3-year renewable term
About CVA-ACFP
The Canadian Vocational Association (CVA-ACFP) is a bilingual not-for-profit organisation advancing skills, education and employment practices in Canada and internationally.
Through DACUM training, certification and expert assistance, CVA-ACFP helps partners design competency-based occupational analyses, training systems and workforce solutions.
Why this role matters? Why join CVA-ACFP?
CVA-ACFP is a working board. We are seeking a Board member with strong instructional design expertise to help modernise and package our DACUM-related learning offer, strengthen competency-based product design, and support market-ready, Board-approved learning solutions for Canadian and international audiences.
This role works closely with the DACUM Committee on content direction and helps translate strategic intent into clear learning pathways, assessment logic, delivery formats and customer-facing programme documentation.
This is an opportunity to shape the next generation of DACUM-related learning offers within an established bilingual organisation with an international footprint. We welcome candidates from across Canada and beyond who want to contribute practical expertise to skills development, employability and competency-based innovation.
Key responsibilities
• Participate in Board meetings, strategic discussions and relevant committee work.
• Advise the Board on instructional design, curriculum architecture, learner-centred delivery and assessment within competency-based approaches.
• Work alongside the DACUM Committee to shape product briefs, including learning outcomes, assessment approaches, delivery modes and possible micro-credential stacking.
• Help prototype DACUM-augmented offers, such as short interactive modules, scenario-based learning activities and blended delivery formats that remain aligned with CVA-ACFP quality expectations.
• Collaborate with the marketing and communications lead to turn Board-approved product concepts into clear one-pagers, course outlines, web copy and externally readable offers.
• Support coherence between technical content, learning design, pricing presentation, duration and international readability for non-Canadian audiences.
• Act as an ambassador for CVA-ACFP and help strengthen links with TVET, workforce development and lifelong learning communities.
Ideal profile
• Professional experience in instructional design, curriculum development, learning experience design, educational technology or a closely related field.
• Good understanding of competency-based education and training; knowledge of DACUM is a strong asset.
• Ability to collaborate across technical, governance and communications functions.
• Experience packaging programmes or learning products for external audiences is highly desirable.
• Intercultural awareness and the ability to present learning offers clearly across jurisdictions; familiarity with Canadian contexts is an asset.
• English/French bilingualism and previous Board or volunteer leadership experience are welcome assets.
Commitment and expression of interest
This is a volunteer Board role. The expected contribution is approximately 5-8 hours per month, including Board meetings, preparation, committee work and occasional role-specific follow-up. Board members are appointed through Board election for a renewable three-year term and are expected to join at least one strategic committee.
