📌 The CVA is recruiting a Financial Director
Volunteer board role | Virtual | Approx. 4-6 hours/month | 3-year renewable term
Are you a strategic thinker with a background in finance? Are you looking to give back by supporting a mission-driven organization that strengthens the connection between education and employment? The Canadian Vocational Association (CVA) is seeking a volunteer Board member with financial expertise.
About CVA-ACFP
The Canadian Vocational Association (CVA-ACFP) is a bilingual not-for-profit organisation that builds bridges between employment, skills development and education. Through DACUM training, certification and expert assistance, CVA-ACFP supports competency-based workforce development in Canada and internationally.
Why join & this role matters?
CVA-ACFP is seeking a finance professional who can help strengthen the organisation’s financial governance, improve visibility over budgets and cash flow, and support a realistic pathway to sustainability as the Association expands its training, partnership and service portfolio.
As a working board, CVA-ACFP benefits from directors who can pair sound financial judgement with strategic thinking, appropriate risk awareness and a practical understanding of volunteer-run non-profit realities.
This is a meaningful opportunity to apply financial expertise to an organisation working on employability, training quality and competency-based systems in Canada and beyond. We welcome candidates who want to help a bilingual non-profit strengthen its governance, sustainability and long-term impact.
Key responsibilities
• Participate in Board meetings, governance discussions and relevant committee work.
• Support financial oversight, budgeting, cash-flow visibility and the review of periodic financial information.
• Advise the Board on financial controls, financial policies, audit or review processes, and proportionate risk management.
• Contribute to discussions on sustainability, pricing logic, reserves, scenario planning and resource mobilisation.
• Help ensure that financial implications are clearly understood in strategic planning and operational decisions.
• Bring a pragmatic perspective on non-profit stewardship, compliance and accountability.
• Act as an ambassador for CVA-ACFP and support outreach, partnerships and long-term organisational resilience.
Ideal profile
• Professional experience in finance, accounting or a related field; a CPA or equivalent designation is an asset.
• Ability to explain financial matters clearly to colleagues who do not have a finance background.
• Non-profit, Board or governance experience is helpful but not required.
• Interest in competency-based training, workforce development, lifelong learning and international cooperation.
• Sound judgement, discretion and a collaborative approach to problem-solving.
• French-English bilingualism is a strong asset.
